Funny Patches

Funny patches are commonly called morale patches. The term originated in military units where soldiers wore custom patches with inside jokes, sarcastic phrases, or cartoon designs to boost unit morale. Today, funny patches include tactical humor, pop culture references, work safety jokes, and novelty designs for hats, bags, and vests.

You can put Velcro patches on any hat that has a loop panel sewn onto the front, side, or back. Most tactical caps and operator hats come with a 2-inch by 2-inch loop field. For regular hats without loop panels, you can sew or glue a loop patch onto the hat surface. Funny hat patches work best on flat or slightly curved hat fronts.

A tactical patch is a hook and loop backed emblem designed for attachment to plate carriers, helmets, backpacks, and range bags. Three methods work without Velcro. Sew on using a needle and thread with a backstitch for permanent attachment. Iron on using heat activated glue on the patch back. Fabric glue works for temporary attachment on bags and hats. For tactical gear, Velcro remains the preferred method because it allows patch swapping.
